St Joseph by-the-Sea Track & Field
Coaching Staff
Chris Mancusi - Head Coach Cross
Country/Track & Field
A 2001 Sea Graduate, Coach Mancusi has coached the freshmen team
since Fall 2002. In the fall 2005, Mancusi took over the cross country program
from retired Coach Jim Salerno. During that outdoor season, he guided the freshmen
team
to an Island Championship which snapped a 22 year run by Msgr. Farrell. In
2007,
he was named Head Coach for all three seasons. The 2008 indoor season saw
the Vikings qualify for the prestigious Millrose Games for the first time in 10
years. They made it back to the Garden again in 2009. During the
same year, at the Nike National Championships in Boston, the 4x800 relay placed
6th earning prestigious All-American honors for the 1st time in Sea history.

Cristian Kocurek -
Assistant Coach
Coach Kocurek is a Sea graduate and former team captain from the Class of 2009.
While on the team, he was "a coach amongst the athletes" and could be seen
taking
splits, catching someone's steps or doing whatever needed to get done.
It's to no
surprise that Coach Kocurek has returned to coach. He is an undergraduate
at St.
John's University and studying in the accounting program. Kocurek will be
working
with our sprinters and field athletes.
Jim
Salerno - Head Coach Cross Country - RETIRED
Coach Salerno was the freshmen coach from '97-'98. He stepped up to
become XC
head coach in 1998 and held that position up until 2003. He and his wife
Monica
were instrumental in strengthening the Big Blue Track meet and fulfilling
administrative
duties. Coach led Sea to its best finish at the XC City Champs with a 6th
place performance
missing qualifying for the State meet by 1 pt. He currently serves on the
Luke M. Parlatore foundation board and is the meet director for Luke's Race held at Sea every
June.
John Sexton - Head

Coach Sexton, a St John's University graduate, has been coaching at Sea

he coached some of the greatest field event atheltes in Sea History. He became the
Head Coach in 1998 and led the Vikings to their
second
consecutive Indoor Island
